His first commissions in New York were for Francoise De La Renta at House and Garden magazine. He studied photography at the London College of Printing and moved to New York in 1982. Mick Hales was born in England and grew up in Pakistan and Nigeria. Every leaf on these trees is free to move in the wind.’ The way of formation and creation is very intimate. It was at that point that I heard in my head the words, ‘It’s all about relationship, it’s about being in relationship with me- Its about the love I have for you in the most intimate way. It was as though there was a secret orchestra playing as the wind turned each of thousands of leaves. Standing in an arc of trees I could hear the wind blowing the leaves around.
