It has a good tool for synchronizing the lyrics with the tracks and allows you to have multiple tracks and to use sprites, background videos, and background pictures. I purchased kaafun editor many years ago and I still use it all the time. Seems powerful and easy to use, but not functional without buying $99 license.

People talk about using this to make karaoke, but I'm not sure why you would. KarLyricEditor has a simple and easy to learn interface, but it renders terribly low quality, blurry CDGs. Only drawback is that fine-tuning lyric timing is a bit time consuming, could be easier. Wav files produced by sox can be opened in any version. wave files produced by ffmpeg will be rejected by versions 001a and 001b, but can be opened by version 001. Only accepts wav inputs files, and is finicky about those. Generates really nice CDG images, almost professional. Good workflow for setting and fine-tuning timing I can make a good-enough CDG in ten minutes. Initially confusing and clunky interface, but manageable after reading the instructions. At the moment, my favorites are CD+Graphics Magic and Easy Video Maker.ĬD+Graphics Magic Editor unfinished alpha software, but it works. Notes on various programs that I've come across.
But haven't been able to find a free tool for that either.

I've been looking at the open source tools, since they are obviously free, but what about commercial programs? Are there any that can be used for free to author CDGs? In fact, doesn't even have to be CDG I'd settle for a free program to make a MP4 video with karaoke style on-screen lyrics.
